Truth
is there ARE things we can change about ourselves if we truly don't like them.
There are some things we can't change.
It
appears that the things we cannot change are the ones that usually drive us
round the bend. We focus on these items as if that is ALL we are. That no
matter how good, clever, intelligent, kind, or humorous we are, all anyone
looks at is those so called (or imagined) FLAWS. A
trillion people can TELL us we're being silly! But unless they sit in our shoes
and walk our journey, they really should shut up!
Sure
we KNOW they are correct. Somewhere deep in our psyches we want to believe
them, but it angers us to hear someone make light of our insecurities. (Or those who prey on our "flaws" because it helps THEM look/feel somehow, better.)
"Oh,
it's not that bad. No one notices!"
"You're imagining things!"
"Well, if you'd just..."
Yep...
all we (I) WANT to say is "SHUT UP!"
Just
ACCEPT ME and STOP telling me to change; or how I can change; or if I'd only...
"Huh?"
(I hear you saying...)
Yes, by
telling me to stop worrying about what bugs ME you are, in fact, belittling my
self estimation and self worth. You are degrading my feelings even further; and
I trusted you!
We
do tend to think only women have these feelings of inadequacy. Not true, men
suffer too. And probably even more so because they are not encouraged to
explore (what they perceive as) their weaknesses. How many men do you know who
have come up to you and 'shared' their insecurities? Penis
envy; height deficiency; over-weight; under-muscled; glasses; 'nerdy'; Yep, men too.
And,
as Onyx-Wildcat points out, these perceived deficiencies are internalised and
we (men & women) put on brave faces, pretending it doesn't affect us...too much. We can
handle the inadvertent slights and un-compassionate comments, we put on our
defiant faces and stiffen our backs; we'll cry when we're alone so you can't
see us.
But we (I) don't want your sticky, syrupy concern.
We (I) just want to voice
our (my) disgust and be allowed to feel what WE (I) want.
We'd (I'd) like for you to understand and empathise, just don't try and 'make it all
better.' Okay?
* hugs *

Google apparently needs you to verifiy you are a human and not an android... I guess I am okay with that, after all, no one likes spam... (Except in Hawaii... it gets GREAT reviews there...) Anyway, I appreciate your taking the time to leave me a message, thank you for your consideration. Have a wonderful day... or at least pretend to! luv khrys...
